Chularatchamontri
Aziz Phitakkumpon was born on March 6, 1947, in Hua Khao subdistrict, Singhanakhon
district, Songkhla province.
He was the son
of Mr. Mae (Hajji Ismail) and Mrs. Na (Aminah) Phitakkumpon. He was married to
Mrs. Romiah Phitakkumpon and they had four children. He was a descendant of
Sultan Sulaiman Shah, who was the governor of Songkhla during the reigns of
King Songtham and King Prasat Thong.
Chularatchamontri
Aziz Phitakkumpon was appointed as the successor to Mr. Sawad Sumalayasak. On
May 16, 2010, he received the highest number of votes from provincial Islamic
committee members nationwide to become Chularatchamontri under the Islamic
Organizational Administration Act, B.E. 2540 (1997). He was the second person, after Mr. Sawad
Sumalayasak, to be appointed through this process. He was royally appointed as
the 18th Chularatchamontri on June 6, 2010.

May 16, 2010, a meeting of all provincial Islamic committees nationwide passed
a resolution to nominate him for the position of Chularatchamontri.

Remarks on the
Occasion of Assuming the Position of Chularatchamontri
“My dear respected people,
I have been
chosen to be your leader, and I am not better than any of you. Therefore, if I
do what is right, please support me. If I do something wrong, I ask that you
help correct me so that I may do what is right.
As long as I
obey Allah (Subhana Wa Ta'ala) and His Messenger (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam),
then you must obey me. But if I disobey Allah and His Messenger, then you have
no obligation to obey me.”
Mr. Aziz
Phitakkumpon, the 18th Chularatchamontri of the Kingdom of Thailand, has returned to
the mercy of Allah (passed away) on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 10:32 AM.
The Janazah
prayer (prayer for the deceased) was held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the
Central Mosque of Songkhla Province, located at 352 Lopburi Ramet Road, Khlong Hae subdistrict,
Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. His body (Mayyit) was buried near the mosque.
On this
occasion, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn graciously granted royal soil
for the burial and sent a royal wreath to the gravesite. His Majesty also
graciously appointed General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council,
as his royal representative.
